The April showers are not finished yet.
Columbus and much of Ohio are in for a stormy Tuesday with a chance for large hail and damaging straight-line winds, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
The potentially damaging severe storms will be possible Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening.
The outlook encompasses almost three dozen Ohio counties, including Franklin County, Licking County, Fairfield County, Union County, Delaware County, Fayette County and Pickaway County.
What are straight-line winds?
The term straight-line winds is used by the NWS to describe any strong, non-rotational wind from a thunderstorm. Rotational wind, on the other hand, is what occurs in tornadoes.
A common cause of straight-line winds is downdrafts, when cold air from a storm cloud rapidly descends to the ground. The air spreads along the surface when it hits the ground, creating straight-line winds.
Straight-line winds are much more common than tornadoes.
Here is what you can expect from the weather in Columbus this week.

- Monday: It will be sunny with a high near 78.
- Monday Night: It will be mostly clear with a low around 64. Wind gusts as high as 21 mph will be possible.
- Tuesday: There is a chance of showers before 11 a.m., then there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers and possible a thunderstorm will occur after 2 p.m. The high will be near 81. It will be breezy with a southwest wind 14 to 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Between a tenth and quarter of an inch of precipitation is expected, but more could fall if it storms.
- Tuesday Night: There will be showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., then there is a slight chance of showers between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. The low will be around 53. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Between a tenth and quarter of an inch of precipitation is expected, but more could fall if it storms.
- Wednesday: There is a chance of showers, mainly after 3 p.m. It will be partly sunny with a high near 69. The chance of precipitation is 30%. Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected.
- Wednesday Night: There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly cloudy with a low around 61. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Less than a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected, but more could fall if it storms.
- Thursday: There is a chance of thunderstorms, then showers are likely and a thunderstorm is possible after 8 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy with a high near 78. The chance of precipitation is 70%.
- Thursday Night: Showers likely and a thunderstorm is possible before 2 a.m., then there is a chance of showers. It will be mostly cloudy with a low around 60. The chance of precipitation is 70%.
- Friday: There is a chance of showers. It will be partly sunny with a high near 68. The chance of precipitation is 50%.
- Friday Night: There is a chance of showers before 2 a.m. It will be partly cloudy with a low around 44. The chance of precipitation is 30%.
- Saturday: It will be sunny with a high near 62.
- Saturday Night: It will be mostly clear with a low around 43.
- Sunday: It will be sunny, with a high near 70.
